An Autumn Wedding for Georgina and Mackenzie at Ellingham Hall

Wedding Blog

“Joss did an exceptional job of putting us at ease and getting the best out of us for the wedding snaps (and engagement shoot prior to that).”

When newlyweds describe their celebration as the “best day of our lives,” you just know it’s a wedding that you want to share with their world. Hosted at Ellingham Hall in Northumberland in mid-October last year, Georgina and Mackenzie’s autumn wedding was the epitome of rustic elegance. These guys (and their guests) were so much fun to work with and when I say they thought of every little detail, I mean it! From the personal touches (the nod to their Canadian and English roots) to their dusty rose and sage colour scheme, everything about their wedding day will make you smile. So, without further ado, here it is for you to enjoy…

Although they had to postpone their original wedding date by a year due to covid, it was hugely important to Georgina and Mackenzie to unite their two families from across the world and celebrate their love together. The couple chose to exclusively hire Ellingham Hall for a couple of days so they could extend the celebrations with their family and close friends, which was particularly important as some of their families hadn’t met each other yet.

The brides looked utterly exquisite, with Georgina wearing Morilee and Mackenzie in a bespoke gown made by a family friend in Canada. Their bridesmaids dazzled in pale pink sequin maxi dresses by Monsoon – the perfect choice for an elegant autumn soirée. The brides opted to have a pre-ceremony, no look photo-shoot, where I captured them with a door in between so they couldn’t see each other. It was such a special time where they could exchange a few words and hold hands ahead of the wonderful blur of their wedding day. Something I would always encourage!

Ellingham Hall has an array of envy-inducing spaces on offer, with Georgina and Mackenzie’s wedding ceremony taking place in one of their grand rooms. A selection of exquisite chandeliers twinkled as their bridesmaids made their way down the aisle, which was lined with flickering candles in metallic lanterns. After waiting patiently over a year for their rescheduled wedding date, this was one incredible ‘I Do’ moment and so much love filled the room.

As guests filtered into their wedding reception, it really was a photographer’s dream! Georgina and Mackenzie had styled the space to perfection with the help of their friends and family, working in an array of dusty rose and sage green touches that were a beautiful addition to their autumn wedding. Festoon lighting was draped from the ceiling, while tables were decorated with rustic wooden tree slices and dainty glasses brimming with florals by Flowerzone. Their flower arrangements included pale pink roses, eucalyptus, stocks, veronicas and lisianthus – all of which were carefully arranged by Sam, one of their bridesmaids. They also used old vintage-style books from Georgina’s late Dad’s library to style the tables, using the titles of the books as their table names. It really was the most beautiful and personal way of remembering Georgina’s Dad, Graham Roberts. He was a lover of the outdoors and sports, so their titles included, “The English Lakes” and “Book of Cricket”. As a nod to their close relatives who sadly couldn’t be there on the day, Georgina and Mackenzie created a heartfelt ‘Angel’s Corner’, including pictures of their close relatives, including Georgina’s late Dad.

Their friends and family were spoilt with the most delicious donut wall (which didn’t stay full of donuts for very long), as well as a trio of wedding cakes that were made by Georgina’s sister, Madeleine. The cakes were displayed on wooden tree slices, where guests had the option of chocolate orange sponge, red velvet and Victoria sponge cake to tuck into.

Everywhere you looked, Georgina and Mackenzie’s wedding reception was overflowing with fabulous touches, including a champagne fizz tower, a flower wall, dancefloor rules, flip-flops for sore feet and ‘Let Love Grow’ succulent wedding favours. As their wedding photographer, I felt the speeches were a real gem to capture on camera and full of emotion and love. Every speech left guests in tears, laughing or with smiles plastered on their faces, and there was never a dull moment for anyone.

A four-piece band known as ‘Algorhythm’ got the couple’s friends and family on the dancefloor all night, with their first dance as the Ben Haynes version of ‘Simply the Best’. It really was a day to remember and a huge pleasure to capture on camera! If you want to see more love stories in action, swing by my Instagram and get following!
