“As soon as we stumbled across Joss’ portfolio of wedding photographs, we knew she was the one for us. The beautiful light and airy theme of the photographs was just what we had been searching for to match the theme of our wedding day. As soon as we met with Joss at the planning meeting, we knew we had made the right choice. Joss was the perfect photographer for our special day…”
The only thing better than capturing love stories on camera is being able to relive them, and Sarah and George’s spring wedding at Woodhill Hall in Otterburn is certainly no exception. Now known as Mr & Mrs Bentley, this gorgeous pair had the dreamiest spring soirée and it’s guaranteed to tempt you to tie the knot at this time of year if you’re wondering which season is for you. Keep scrolling and enjoy a snippet of their wedding day in Newcastle…
For a full day’s worth of photography, I begin around two hours ahead of the ceremony. I headed to the venue on a fresh and bright Saturday morning and as I made my way through the entrance, I just knew this celebration was going to be something special. The morning of the wedding is one of my favourite parts to capture on camera – the excitement, pre-ceremony jitters and flickers of anticipation are just contagious, and I adore trying to visually document the atmosphere as the day unfolds. My time was spent flitting between the bride and her bridesmaids (cue the most gorgeous pastel gowns) and the groom with his groomsmen. After securing a hugely emotional wedding dress reveal with the bride and her loved ones (for me, that reaction never gets old) we were ready to head to the ceremony.
Sarah and George opted for an indoor ceremony in the Olive House, which they elegantly decorated with spring-inspired florals by Fleur Couture, as well as the venue’s twinkling chandelier. It was beautifully personal, with a song that was sung by their nieces as well as a selection of readings. Then it was time for that all-important confetti shot, with dainty floral petals handed to guests from rustic wicker baskets.
Woodhill Hall boasts an array of incredible backdrops, so we made the most of the scenery on offer for Sarah and George’s group shots. Thankfully, the weather played ball for the duration for their spring wedding so we were able to capture their guests outside with the surrounding views. While their friends and family tucked into delicious canapés, I whisked the bride and groom off for 20 minutes for their couple portraits. We even managed to grab some soft glowy golden hour shots later in the evening, just before the sun set. So dreamy! I always adore this time of the day as it allows me to connect with the couple, while they have the chance to savour the moment as newlyweds.
As the celebrations continued, the happy couple made their way into Woodhill Hall’s three teepees to enjoy a mouth-watering wedding breakfast and an evening full of dancing. They adorned the wooden beams with fairy lights, styling their tables with jaw-droppingly beautiful florals that were the perfect nod to their spring wedding. Teepees always offer ample space to really let your imagination run wild when it comes to decorating, so the couple made the most of the ceiling room by hanging epic floral and pampas grass installations.
As the lights dimmed and guests hit the dance-floor (with their first dance song, ‘Avicii Ft Chris Martin – Heaven’ kick-starting those party vibes), I captured the last moments of their celebration before heading home and looking back at what had been one stunning spring wedding day. A huge thank you to Mr & Mrs Bentley for choosing me to document your love story!
